SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE

CONVERSATION STARTER
Who in your life models using their spiritual gifts well? What stands out about the way they use them?

DEEPER

Read Romans 12:4-8
Paul uses the metaphor of the body to describe the church. In what ways have you seen the church function well as a body? Where do you see room for growth?

The sermon emphasized that every believer is filled with the Holy Spirit. How should this truth shape our daily lives and ministry?

Do you have a sense of what your spiritual gifts are? If so, how did you come to recognize them and how have you been utilizing them lately?

The sermon defined spiritual gifts as being for “the edification of the church and God’s salvific mission to the world.” How can we balance using our gifts both within the church and in our everyday interactions with those who don’t know Christ?

Paul warns against quenching the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19). What are some common ways we might resist or hinder the work of the Spirit in our lives?

Are there ways your Life Group can be more intentional in helping each other develop and use their spiritual gifts?

What stood out to you in this week’s sermon? What were your biggest takeaways?

Prayer activity: In your full group or smaller groups, take time to pray and ask God to reveal how he wants you to use your spiritual gifts. If you or others in your group are unsure of your gifts, encourage one another by sharing the gifts you see in each other, and pray that the Holy Spirit would bring clarity and guidance.
