Scott McKinney
September 10th, 2023
Next Sunday, September 17- third service- 9 AM, 10:30 and noon.
When it comes to money, it is not just about you and me.
It is about
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” —Luke 16:13
Jesus’s #1 rival- the love of money.
In the end we keep
“For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.” —1 Timothy 6:7
It all belongs to
“The Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it”. —Psalm 24:1
The point of the Gospel is that Jesus
Jesus wants those that belong to Him to become givers.
We only have a
“I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?” —Luke 16:9-12
Generosity now results in
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” —Acts 20:35
How do we give?
When we give, we make a
“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” —Corinthians 9:7
What we give is the most
“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.” —Proverbs 3:9
Give
Why is it so hard to give?
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” —2 Corinthians 9:6-10
We only reap if we sow.
We reap later than we sow.
We reap more than we sow.
“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” —2 Corinthians 9:11
Small Group Study Questions
September 10 - September 16
Intro to Small Groups
-Describe your church background. Would you say you were unchurched or overly churched?
-How did you end up at CenterPoint Church?
-Was it difficult or hard for you to join a small group?
The reason we gather in small groups is because we need one another in our walk
with Christ. There are 59 “One Another Passages” in the New Testament. Below are listed just 10 of them. Read each of these verses together. After reading these what could this small group become and what role could I play in living these verses out in this group?
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” —1 Peter 4:8
“Outdo one another in showing honor.” —Romans 12:10
“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” —Romans 15:7
“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” —1 Peter 4:9
“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.” —Romans 12:16
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted…” —Ephesians 4:32a
“…forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” —Ephesians 4:32b
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” —Galatians 6:2
“Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” —1 Peter 5:5
“Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.” —Ephesians 4:25
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” —James 5:16
