Thus Saith Week 2 - Prophetic Believers

January 12, 2025

  • In the Old Testament, it was the for anyone other than prophets to prophesy.
  • In the New Testament, it not an exception for believers to prophesy. It’s the .

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. —1 Corinthians 14:1
But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. —1 Corinthians 14:3
You all may prophesy —1 Corinthians 14:31

4 Categories of the Prophetic
- Scripture - “the more sure word of prophecy”. Every prophecy must be governed and evaluated by God’s Word. II Peter 1:19-21
- The Office of the prophet, Ephesians 4:11-13 5-fold.
- A Gift of Prophecy. Forth-telling, not foretelling. 1 Corinthians 14:3.
- The Spirit of Prophecy. This is a prophetic atmosphere or anointing in a gathering or upon a community. Revelation 19:10

Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that

the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them! —Numbers 11:29

1. God is a God of , and He intends that we receive revelation from Him.

  • He reveals Himself, His purposes, and His plans.

  • Reveal in Hebrew means to uncover, to make known, disclose, or to show. Reveal in Greek means to make known or unveil.

He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you. —John 16:14 AMP

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened…” —Ephesians 1:17-18a

2. One way that the Holy Spirit gives revelation is through ministry.

“Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken! Who can but prophesy?” —Amos 3:7-8 NKJV

  • “Secret” - council, close deliberation, intimacy.

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.” —Psalms 25:14

“The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.” —Psalm 25:14 AMPC

  • In the place of worship, and choosing the reverential fear of the Lord, we get brought into the secret of the Lord - His council and close deliberation!

3. The Holy Spirit invites us to be in prophetic ministry.

A. Remember the purpose of a gift of prophecy. 1 Corinthians 14:3 NIV - But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

  • ABCs of prophecy: Always build up, cheer up, and draw/call near.
  • New testament orientation in the gift of prophecy: look for treasure, not trash!

B. Receiving a prophetic word/gift of prophecy.

  • It’s often as simple as asking the Lord . Prayer is a two-way conversation.
  • Lord, who is this person to You?
  • What is Your heart for them?
  • How are You wanting to encourage them?
  • What are You saying today?
  • How do You want to move in this community, group, or gathering?

C. Review the ways that God speaks.

  1. God speaks through scriptures.
  2. God speaks with a still small voice.
  3. The Lord speaks through pictures.
  4. The Lord speaks through visions and dreams.
  5. Unusual coincidences – pay attention and ask the Lord about it.
  6. God speaks through impressions and the leading of His Spirit.
  7. God speaks through testimony.

D. How do we

prophetic words?

  • Conversational tone. Can I share a word with you? Don’t be afraid to ask, “Does this mean anything to you”?
