Rise Up to LIve
Part of Rise Up—A Strategic Plan to Draw Closer to God
August 30, 2024
Use the following questions and directions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
- One key element of discipleship is your interaction with the Word of God.
· What is your relationship with God’s word? Use…
· One word to describe your attitude toward it.
· One word to describe your level of engaging it.
· One word to describe how deep you know it.
· One word to describe your satisfaction with it. - How does our culture help/hinder us as we try to embrace God’s Word?
- What opportunities do you have to study during your week? What tools are at your disposal?
- Share when/how you like to read God’s word (actual, or ideas). What times work well? How do you select a passage? How much do you read?
- Application of what you study is perhaps the most important part of following Jesus. Consider the ideas below. Which one would you like to try (or which one are you already doing)? Share why the idea appeals to you.
– After reading a verse, write out one action on an index card. Put it in your pocket as a reminder for a week at a time. Whenever you can eat a meal, review it.
– Find an accountability partner with whom you can share the things you’ve learned. Ask them to pray for you as you apply the truth in your life. Meet regularly (2-4 times per month) for encouragement.
– Become a mentor. Take a younger Christian under your wing and begin teaching them what you know. Talk about how you can live out these truths, and then do so!
Prayer:
- Pray for God to help you be intentional in following Him.
- Pray for opportunities to grow in your knowledge of Jesus.
