  1. What adversely affects you more– pollen or perfume?

  2. The sermon included the statement that “one of the basic needs of humanity is to find forgiveness.” Why do you think forgiveness is such a fundamental human need? Have you experienced this need in your own life?

  3. In the sermon, Pastor John H pointed out that our modern concept of morality involves “picking and choosing ideas” for our personal moral systems. How does this individualized approach to morality make finding true forgiveness more difficult?

  4. Read Hebrews 9:18-22: Why is blood necessary for forgiveness? What does this verse tell us about the relationship between sacrifice and forgiveness?

  5. Read Hebrews 9:15 again. How does Jesus function as a “mediator of a new covenant”? What is the significance of receiving “the promised eternal inheritance” through this mediation?

  6. The sermon stated that “the only hope that any human person has in finding complete and full forgiveness is in a covenant relationship with Jesus Christ.” Discuss what it means to be in a “covenant relationship” with Jesus. How is this different from simply believing certain facts about Him or participating in religious ceremonies?

  7. Look at Hebrews 9:24-26. What does it mean that Christ has entered “into heaven itself” and has “appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself”? How is this different from the repeated animal sacrifices of the Old Testament? How does Christ’s sacrifice on the cross demonstrate God’s love in a way that animal sacrifices could not? How does this relate to our forgiveness?

  8. The sermon stated that “there is no clearer demonstration of God’s love than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.” Reflect on what this means for how we understand both the severity of sin and the depth of God’s love. How might this understanding change the following: how you approach God in prayer this week? How you serve God this week? How you treat others this week?
