GOD MAKES ALL THINGS NEW
Psalm 85
Westland Baptist Church
Roy Meadows, Lead Pastor
October 15, 2023
1 You, LORD, showed favor to your land, you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.
3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger.
4 Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us.
5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation.
8 I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants - but let them not turn to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.
10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
• Pray to God for ‘favor’, restoration, forgiveness vss 1-4
Psalm 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
Habakkuk 3:2, among others, offer us examples of revival prayer: Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD.
Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
Our prayer today:
Lord, you have done it (revived your people) before. Please, Lord, do it again!
• Bring others to hear God’s Word vss 8-10 - Have you ever experienced something and wished a friend or family member could have been there also? Now is the time to invite your Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances and Neighbors to experience revival with you October 22 - October 25. What do we mean by “revival”?
Although the word revival is not written in the New Testament, three key New Testament passages direct our focus to the gist of what Christians usually mean when we speak of revival: Ephesians 2:1, 4-5, and Colossians 2:13-15. We were indeed “dead in our trespasses,” but because of Jesus, we are alive.
Ephesians 2:1, 4-5
1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.
Invite the “Saved” so they (you) will be encouraged by the preaching of The Word of God.
Invite the “Backslidden” so they (you) will be revived and renewed.
Invite the “Lost” so they (you) will hear the Gospel and be saved.
Colossians 2:13-15 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
• Expect from God vss 11-13
12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
