Grasshopper mentality: A self-defeating and self-limiting perception we carry of ourselves and our abilities. It’s characterized by self-condemning thoughts of being inferior, unworthy and incapable. At its root, it’s an identity issue.
Crippling effects of a Grasshopper Mentality
1) Causes you to focus on:
- Your weaknesses instead of your strengths.
- Your inabilities instead of God’s abilities through you.
- Your problems instead of God’s promises.
2) A grasshopper mentality will cause you to be negative of yourself
even in the midst of positive facts.
3) A grasshopper mentality will cause you to limit your chance of
success due to a fear of failure.
4) A grasshopper mentality will cause you to live with regret over what
you could’ve had, but what you missed out on because you didn’t
embrace your opportunity.
Overcoming a grasshopper mentality:
- Identify the root of your poor self-image.
- Renounce every lie you’ve believed about yourself.
- Feed your faith daily with God’s promises.
- Replace negative self-talk with positive self-talk.
- Fill your cup with what fills you up.
