Purpose of God’s Law
Read Galatians 3:15-29
Icebreaker — What is your favorite vacation memory?
1. Reflection: Paul stressed God’s promises to Abraham were not voided by the 10 Commandments. How might understanding God’s steadfast love and faithfulness to His people impact your trust in Him?
2. Purpose of the Law: Paul called the law a “guardian” until Christ came to fulfill the law. How has God’s law shaped your understanding of sin, grace, and need for Christ? What does the law reveal about the universal desires of every human.
3. Timeline: God’s promises to Abraham were given 430 years before the 10 commandments in Exodus 20. Without the Mosaic Law, how did everyone discern the difference between right or wrong? Why do you think there were consequences for the sins of Cain, the people of Noah’s day, etc? Without the law, what made people righteous before God since it was impossible to even try to obey God’s law?
4. Union in Christ: If there is no distinction between Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female, etc., how does the gospel (Good News of Christ’s completed work on behalf of those who turn to Him by faith) provide relational unity to those of varying backgrounds, social standing, or personality?
5. Walking in Faith: If you are a Christian, you are in Christ. How does being a citizen of Heaven and child within God’s family impact your worldview and daily activities?
