Acts 10:34-48
10:37-40 | In this passage is one of the best summary statements of Christ’s ministry and the entire NT.
10:39-40 | Peter pointed out that he had witnessed these events firsthand. No one was more intimately involved in the events of Jesus’ death than Peter; his own denial of Jesus would be something he would never forget (Matt. 26), He finished where every account of Christ’s life should: with His death and resurrection.
10:43 | Peter concludes his gospel presentation by providing the answer that Cornelius and every person needs: it is only through faith in Jesus that a person can be right with God.
10:45 | God providentially sent several Jewish believers to accompany Peter, so together they could be witnesses when the Holy Spirit was poured out on believing Gentiles in the same way it had been poured out on them. Just as in Peter’s vision, God made no distinction between the two groups (Rom. 10:12).
10:47-48 | Baptism is not about salvation or going to heaven – the thief on the cross who believed in Jesus was not baptized before he died (Luke 23:43). Baptism is about being obedient to the Lord, who has commanded believers to be baptized once they become His disciples (Matt. 28:19).
