Isaiah 40:3–5 (KJV)
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
WE DO NOT WORSHIP TO GET SOMETHING FROM GOD, WE WORSHIP BECAUSE HE IS WORTHY.
THE DEFINITION OF WORSHIP:
- PERPETUAL GRATITUDE
- TO ACKNOWLEDGE IN ALL THINGS
- TO PLACE THE HIGHEST VALUE ON
- TO PROSTRATE, TO BOWN DOWN, TO FALL FLAT
Corrie Ten Boom said:
“I have learned to hold all things loosely, so God will not have to pry them out of my hands.”
Genesis 22:1-5 (NASB)
1 Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” 3 So Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the boy will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.”
WORSHIP IS OBEDIENCE. WORSHIP IS SURRENDER.
WORSHIP IS OFFERING TO GOD MY MISTAKES AND MY MIRACLES.
WORSHIP IS GIVING TO GOD WHAT YOU LOVE MOST.
GOD DOESN’T WANT A SONG, HE WANTS A SACRIFICE.
Billy Graham said:
“When we come to Christ, we’re no longer the most important person in the world to us; Christ is. Instead of living only for ourselves, we have a higher goal: to live for Jesus.”
TRUE WORSHIP BEGINS WHEN WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE SOURCE
Genesis 22:12-14 (NIV)
“Do not lay a hand upon the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So, Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”
Psalm 95:6 (NIV)
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
Psalm 29:2 (NIV)
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
Psalm 24:1- 4 (NIV)
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
John 4:23-24 (NASB)
23 But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Job 1:21 (NIV)
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
