Message Overview:

In our exploration of the Gospel of John, we unpack the compelling concept of ‘Come and See.’ It’s a beautiful invitation, extended to everyone, to experience Jesus in a life-changing way. We delve into the Festival of Tabernacles, a poignant reminder of how God freed His people from slavery and provided for them in the wilderness. This invitation isn’t limited to a select few; it’s open to all. This is the first part of our ‘Come and See’ series, where we invite you to explore the depths of Jesus’s teachings and love.

Next, we look into the symbolism of living water. Jesus, in his infinite wisdom and love, offers us the chance to drink from His well of living water. We discuss how, like water, Jesus is the only thing that can truly satisfy our spiritual thirst. Our hearts often yearn for something more profound, and it’s Jesus’s living water that can fulfill this desire. It’s not about finding temporary relief or distractions, but finding genuine peace, purpose, and identity in Him.

Finally, we discuss the power of the Holy Spirit and how allowing Him to fill our lives can change how we react to life’s challenges. Even when things get tough, we don’t need to fear because the Holy Spirit is there to guide us. Join us on this journey as we explore the profound teachings of Jesus, understand His endless love for us, and learn how we can apply these teachings to our daily lives.

Devotional Readings:

Day 1: John 7:37-39

In today’s passage, Jesus makes a powerful declaration during the Festival of Tabernacles. He calls out to anyone who is thirsty to come to Him. As we dive into these verses, let’s meditate on the spiritual thirst that Jesus is referring to and how He alone can satisfy that thirst. Just as our physical bodies crave water, our spiritual selves also long for sustenance. Only through Jesus, through His teachings, love, and sacrifice, can we quench that spiritual thirst.

Jesus offers living water, a symbol of the Holy Spirit, to all who are thirsty. How do you understand this metaphor in your personal spiritual journey?

How does the concept of ‘Come and See’ resonate with you? In what ways can we extend this invitation to others in our lives?

Day 2: Exodus 17:1-7

The Israelites, God’s chosen people, were freed from the bondage of slavery and led into the wilderness. Even though they were free, they complained about their thirst. God responded by commanding Moses to strike a rock to provide water. As we reflect on this miraculous provision, let’s ponder how God meets our physical and spiritual needs, even in the wilderness seasons of our lives.

How does the Festival of Tabernacles reflect God’s grace and mercy towards His people?

Day 3: John 4:1-14

Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well is another profound example of the ‘living water’ that Jesus offers. The woman came to draw physical water, but Jesus offered her ‘living water’, leading to eternal life. How often do we seek temporary, worldly solutions when Jesus is offering us eternal, spiritual fulfillment?

What are some ways that you’ve sought to quench your spiritual thirst outside of Jesus’ living water? How have those efforts fallen short of true satisfaction?

Today, let’s examine what we are using to quench our spiritual thirst and consider how we can seek Jesus’ living water instead.

Day 4: Galatians 5:22-25

This passage talks about the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we accept Jesus’ living water and allow the Holy Spirit to fill us, these qualities begin to overflow from us.

As we meditate on these fruits today, let’s ask ourselves these questions, are these fruits evident in our lives? Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us and spill out onto others?

From the message on Sunday, it is mentioned that when filled with the Holy Spirit, we react to life differently. How has the Holy Spirit influenced your reactions to life’s trials?

Day 5: Isaiah 44:3-4

In this prophetic passage, God promises to pour out His Spirit on His people like water on thirsty ground. This ‘living water’ leads to spiritual growth and fruitfulness. As we conclude this week’s study, let’s reflect on our own spiritual journey. Are we experiencing growth and fruitfulness because we have allowed God’s Spirit to quench our spiritual thirst?

Jesus offers living water, a symbol of the Holy Spirit, to all who are thirsty. How do you understand this metaphor in your personal spiritual journey?

Let’s seek to continually drink from the well of living water that Jesus offers, transforming our lives and those around us.
