Oct 8 - The Lord is My Banner
October 3, 2023

Isaiah 43:11-12 CSB
I—I am the LORD. Besides me, there is no Savior. 12 I alone declared, saved, and proclaimed—and not some foreign god among you. So you are my witnesses”—this is the LORD’s declaration—“and I am God.

The Lord is My Banner

Exodus 17:14-15 CSB
The Lord then said to Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.”
15 And Moses built an altar and named it, “The Lord Is My Banner.”

Psalm 60:4 ESV
You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow.

RESPONSE: I WILL FOLLOW

GOD IS INTIMATELY AND ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN MY LIFE.

Psalm 139:3-5 NLT
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Genesis 12:1-4 CSB
The Lord said to Abram: Go out from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you. 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

ROADBLOCK: LIVING BY SIGHT, NOT FAITH

Hebrews 11:8 CSB
By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 ESV
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

ROADBLOCK: FEAR OF FAILURE

Psalm 37:5-6 CSB
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act, 6 making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday.

ROADBLOCK: DON’T TRUST GOD WITH THE FUTURE

James 4:13-15 CSB
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring—what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.15 Instead, you should say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
Context of chapter—HUMILITY “resists proud, grace to humble”

WHEN GOD SAYS GO, GOD ALWAYS GIVES A PROMISE

Genesis 12:1-2 CSB
The Lord said to Abram: Go out from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, I will curse anyone who treats you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
