Luke 2:8-12 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a
Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

  1. Why The Shepherds?
Luke 2:8 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.”
Psalm 100:3 “You know the Lord is God! He created us and we belong to Him; we are His people, the sheep in His pasture.”
Isaiah 53:6 “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own.”
Jeremiah 50:6 “My people have been lost sheep. They have lost their way and can’t remember how to get back to the sheepfold.”
Ezekiel 34:16 “I will search for My lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again.”
John 10:11 “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
John 10:27-28 “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from Me.”
1 Peter 5:4 “When Christ the Chief Shepherd returns, you will be given a crown that will never lose its glory.

  2. Why Jesus?
Luke 1:31 “You will conceive and give birth to a Son, and you will name Him Jesus.”
Matthew 1:20-21 “‘Joseph, son of David,’ the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a Son, and you are to name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.’”
Luke 2:49 “Jesus said to them, ‘Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?’”
Matthew 20:28 “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Luke 19:10 “The Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Acts 4:12 “Only Jesus has the power to save! His Name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.”

The big idea: It all happened for a reason!
