Invest for

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, —Matthew 6:19 (ESV)

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. —Matthew 6:20 (ESV)

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. —Matthew 6:21 (ESV)

Guard the

The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, —Matthew 6:22 (ESV)

The Healthy Eye Is

[ἁπλοῦς].

Know Who You

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. —Matthew 6:24 (ESV)

Consider It!
What things do people treasure and store up for the future (6:19)?

What can happen to a person’s earthly possessions (6:19)?

Where should we store up treasure (6:20)? Why?

Jesus teaches us that our heart and treasure are inseparably bound together (6:21). To what do you have a heart-felt attachment? What earthly thing would you grieve if lost?

How do our eyes, specifically what we look at, negatively or positively affect our spiritual wellbeing (6:22-23)?

What do we look at and gaze upon each day? What brings light to our innermost being? What allows darkness to spread over our souls?

Why can’t we serve two masters (6:24)?

In what way are you ruled by a desire for money or more?

How can we live and enjoy the rule of Christ?

What spiritual darkness is seeping into my souls through the eye gate?

Who do I serve? What rules my life?

Acknowledge as sin those things which hinder you from enjoying the reign of Christ as King.
