We all have opinions about what we like or don’t like, even in worship. But how often have we stopped to ask what does God really want?

What are some of your opinions on worship?

1.God wants your

… not your leftovers.

As you harvest your crops, bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the Lord your God. —Exodus 23:19a (NLT)
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce. —Proverbs 3:9 (ESV)

What do you notice in these passages?

God doesn’t want us to simply give him what we have left. He wants us to offer the first of our time, money, talents, etc

What might this mean for you?

2.God wants your

… not just your motions.

And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote. —Isaiah 29:13 (NLT)
Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. —Psalm 103:1 (NLT)
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” 37 Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:36–40 (NLT)

3.God wants your

… not just an hour.

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. —1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NLT)
And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. —Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. —Romans 12:1 (NLT)
