The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to bind up [heal] the broken-hearted. —Isaiah 61:1

Since my people are crushed, I am crushed;
I mourn, and horror grips me.
22 Is there no balm in Gilead?
Is there no physician there?
Why then is there no healing
for the wound of my people? —Jeremiah 8:21-22
- “Balm of Gilead”: A healing ointment believed to come from the region of Gilead in the Bible.
Examples of people in the Bible who were brokenhearted:
1. Naomi.
‘Don’t call me Naomi (Pleasant or Sweet) she told them. ‘Call me Mara (bitter) because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. 21 I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.’ —Ruth 1:20-21
2. Hannah the Mother of Samuel.
\‘Not so, my lord,’ Hannah replied, ‘I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.’ 17 Eli answered, ‘Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.’ —I Samuel 1:15-17

Receiving Healing for a Broken Heart:
1. See Him
and know Who He truly is.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul. —Psalm 23:1-3a11 ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.14 ‘I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. —John 10:11-14
