In God We Trust - Time

Let the little children come to me

Luke 18:15-17 (NIV)

People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Something they can teach us

Children instinctively know how to

The passage of time

Psalm 31:14-16 (NIV)

But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

Learning to trust in different times of life

Reflected in the way we spend our time

1. Trusting as Children

Instinctive trust

Who do children place their trust in?

The problem is that we sometimes let them down

So they need to learn to put their trust in God as

The Four Most Important Things

Children need to know their

to God

Will we help or hinder?

What we say and do has great

Deep wounds that can be a hindrance to our relationship with God

Teach them how to go to God as Father

Matthew 6:9 (NIV)

Our Father in Heaven…

Spending time reading and praying together

How are you spending this time that is so fleeting?

A time when they won’t want to anymore

2. Trusting as Young Adults

Forming our own

Trust being tested in our parents, friends, and ourselves

Learning to go

with trust

Lamentations 4:26-28 (ESV)

It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him…

Spending time in

Deeper trust on the other side

Don’t settle for shallow

3. Trusting as Elders

It’s not too late

Becoming like a

again

John 3:3-5 (NIV)

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Admitting our short-comings

Learning to be

again through the cross

This is the Gospel

Spending time passing it on

We’re only ever one

away from losing it

Teaching, mentoring, and apprenticing

It’s a privilege

If you want to see the kingdom come in its fullness, then come as a little child, through trust

Action Step: Passing it On

Passing it on and receiving it back
