Isaiah 46:1-13

46:1-7 | Bel, meaning “lord,” refers to the Babylonian patron deity Marduk; Nebo (or Nabu) was his son. When Babylon fell, those images would be carried away into exile, unable to rescue their city from enemies. By way of contrast, the Lord would continue to carry and deliver His people (Deut. 32:11).

46:9-11 | God is in control; there is no other. The phrase declaring the end from the beginning signifies that God is omniscient (all-knowing). He can declare ho history will end because He will actively intervene in the world to accomplish His plan for the nations and for His people (Num. 23:19; Ps. 33:11).
