The Chalcedonian Definition of AD 45. 1,

“We, then, following the holy Fathers, all with one consent, teach men to confess one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the same perfect in Godhead and also perfect in manhood; truly God and truly man, of a reasonable soul and body; consubstantial (same nature) with the Father according to the Godhead, and consubstantial (same nature) with us according to the Manhood; in all things like unto us,(yet) without sin; begotten before all ages of the Father according to the Godhead, and in these latter days, for us and for our salvation, born of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, according to the Manhood; one and the same Christ, Son, Lord, Only-begotten, to be acknowledged in

, inconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably; the distinction of natures being by no means taken away by the union, but rather the property of each nature being , and concurring in one Person and one Subsistence, not parted or divided into two persons, but one and the same Son, and only begotten, God the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, as the prophets from the beginning have declared concerning him, and the Lord Jesus Christ himself has taught us, and the Creed of the holy Fathers has handed down to us.”

Story

Three Scriptural evidence of Jesus Divinity

A) The word

which refers to God the Father was used to describe Jesus.

John 1:1, 1:18, 20:28; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13, Heb 1:8, 2Peter 1:1

B) The Word Lord

used of Christ was commonly used for “yhwh” Yahweh or the Lord or Jehovah.

Luke 2:1, Luke 2:18, Luke 1:43, Matthew 3:3, Matthew 22:44, 1 Cor 8:6, Heb 1:10-12, Rev 19:6

C) Jesus claim that he was

.
John 8:57-58

Why was Jesus Deity necessary?

1) Only someone who is

God could bear the full penalty for all the sins of all those who would in him - any finite creature would have been incapable of bearing that penalty!
2) Salvation is from the and the whole scripture is design to show that no human being, no creature could ever save man - only God himself could.
3) Only one who was and can be the one mediator between God and man – 1Tim 2:5.

Hypostatic Union of Christ:

Scripture has concluded that Jesus was fully God and fully human in one person. His deity was affirmed through explicit verses that calls him God and Lord and is verified by his actions and words that is only consistent of God Himself. In addition his divine nature is permanently united to his human nature and he lives forever not just as the second person of the trinity but also the man who was born of Mary and as Christ the Messiah and saviour of His people.
