Three Truths on how Jesus Transforms Lives:

1. Jesus transforms lives to

God’s glory.
John 9:1-5
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

2. While life transformation through Jesus is solely God’s work, our of faith is still vital.
John 9:6-7
After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” —St. Augustine

3. Living as a witness to Jesus can be as as telling your story and inviting others to experience His mercy.

John 9:10-11
“How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”

John 9:15
Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”

John 9:25
He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

Discussion Questions:

Read John 9:1-12

  1. In John 9:1-5, the disciples assume the blind man’s condition is due to sin, but Jesus reframes their perspective. Have you ever misinterpreted a difficult situation in your life like this? How can we shift our mindset to see challenges or suffering as an opportunity for God to reveal His glory?

  2. The blind man had to act in faith by going to wash in the pool of Siloam before he could see. Can you share about a time when you had to take a step of faith without knowing the outcome? How did God show up in that situation?

  3. This story highlights how God often moves in unplanned moments. Have you ever experienced a defining moment where God gave you a profound experience of his mercy in a memorable way? How did this impact you and those around you?

  4. After he was healed, the blind man didn’t have all the answers but simply shared his personal testimony: “I was blind, but now I see.” Is there a similar way you could simply yet authentically explain to others how Jesus has transformed your life? (Try to say it in one sentence!)

  5. Is there anything else that challenged you, encouraged you, or stood out to you in this story or the message from this weekend that you’d like to share or ask for prayer about?
