What Are Some Barriers to Boldness?

  • Fear
  • Pride
  • Unbelief
  • Sin

“Stronghold – A mindset that accepts a situation as unchangeable, even though that situation is contrary to the will of God.” —Tony Evans

What Was the Impact of Peter and John’s Boldness?

  • A life was changed

  • A community was shaken up

“When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!” —Acts 3:10

  • The religious were threatened and outraged

“They were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.” —Acts 4:2

“And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening” —Acts 4:3

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’” —Acts 4:8-12

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” —Acts 4:13

“Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” —Acts 4:19-20

  • The church was inspired

  • The power of the Holy Spirit was ignited

“And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.” —Acts 4:31

“We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” —Acts 5:29-32

“Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” —John 15:5
