MAIN IDEA:

Like tangled ropes on a sailboat, sin can wreck our life.

The Holy Spirit empowers us to clean up and live right.

John 16:7-11
7 But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the [e]Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict (convince) the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: 9 regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; 11 and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. NASB

1. Convicts Of Sin

IE. Convince the world they have sinned, not good enough on their own, and are separated from God.

2. Convicts Of Righteousness

IE. Convince the world that rightness can ONLY come from Jesus … who has died on the cross, rose again, and gone to the father on our behalf.

3. Convicts Of Judgment

Convince The World That:

1. They have falsely judged Christ when they rejected and crucified Jesus.

2. Satan (ruler of this world) is the one who will stand judged.

3. Man deserves to stand condemned as well…but the Holy Spirit will reach across the aisle to give man hope and a future.

John 16:12-15
12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. 13a But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth…14a He will glorify Me…33 These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” NASB

1. Let repentance and confession be a regular practice.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. NASB

Psalm 24:3-4a
3 Who may ascend onto the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? 4a One who has clean hands and a pure heart NASB

2. Walk in the power of the Holy Spirit

Acts 19:1-6
1 Now it happened that while Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “On the contrary, we have not even heard if there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. NASB

CLOSING CHALLENGE:

What areas of your life have you allowed sin and compromise to create a tangled mess?

Have you genuinely invited the Holy Spirit into that area through confession and repentance?

If you prayed the prayer to start fresh with God today text “startagain” (one word) to 97000 so we can connect with you and help you take the next steps in this amazing decision.
