SERMON DISCUSSION GUIDE

CONVERSATION STARTER
What have you been reading in God’s Word this week and how is he speaking to you through it?

DEEPER

Read Luke 1:1-25
Luke aims to give his readers certainty about the words and works of Christ (Luke 1:4). What has helped increase your confidence in the scriptures along your faith journey?

Compare Luke’s opening with the prologue in John 1:1-5. How do the purposes of these introductions differ?

How does John’s role as the forerunner of Christ fulfill Old Testament prophecy? Why is his mission significant in the context of God’s redemptive plan?

God is actively working out all things behind the scenes in our lives, just as he did in Zechariah’s. How have you seen him working “behind the scenes” in your own life? How has this impacted your faith?

Like Zechariah, not even our doubts can interrupt God’s plan for our lives. What doubts are you currently carrying during this season? How can your Life Group pray for these doubts?

John the Baptist’s mission was to prepare the people for Christ’s arrival. How can you “prepare the way” for others to encounter Jesus during this Christmas season? What practical steps can you take to point people to him?

What stood out to you in this week’s sermon? What were your biggest takeaways?
