SHADOWLANDS
Building Lives On The Pattern of Jesus
Week 7 – Torn Veils and Tattered Lives
April 14th, 2024
(Hebrews 12:14, ESV)
“Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.”
(1 Peter 1:14–16, NLT)
“14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy.’”
(Matthew 5:48, ESV)
“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
(Exodus 26:31–33, NLT)
“31 “For the inside of the Tabernacle, make a special curtain of finely woven linen. Decorate it with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim.”
“32 Hang this curtain on gold hooks attached to four posts of acacia wood. Overlay the posts with gold, and set them in four silver bases. 33 Hang the inner curtain from clasps, and put the Ark of the Covenant in the room behind it. This curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.”
(Hebrews 10:19–20, ESV)
“19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,”
Beware of Moralism
It’s so natural
“I was like you are. I thought Jesus came and died on the cross. Jesus’ being here was about his death and dying on the cross, but it really was about him coming to show us how to do it. To show us the Christ-consciousness that he had and that consciousness abides in all of us.”
~ Oprah Winfrey ~
“The moralist impulse in the church reduces the Bible to a codebook for human behavior and substitutes moral instruction for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Far too many evangelical pulpits are given over to moralistic messages rather than the preaching of the Gospel…Moralism produces sinners who are better behaved. The Gospel of Christ transforms sinners into the adopted sons and daughters of God…Moralism is not the gospel.”
~ Albert Mohler Jr. ~
(Matthew 27:50–51,54 ESV)
“50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split… 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
(Isaiah 53:4–5,10 ESV)
“4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.”
(Hebrews 9:24–25, NLT)
“24 For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. 25 And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal.”
(Hebrews 10:19–22, NLT)
“19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.”
(Hebrews 10:23–25, NLT)
“23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
