PREPARE

Jesus says He came that we might have life and have it to the full, that it comes through the Holy Spirit, and cannot be found any other way. (John 10:10, 6:62-64) Without Jesus there would be no way for us to be citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven or to have the fullness of life He offers.

The way to enter is narrow – it is only through Jesus. Let us seek to understand the implications this has for us in how we live and love others. Prepare for this week’s teaching by reading Matthew 7:13-14 with John 10.

ATTEND

Verses: Matthew 7:13-14, Luke 13:22-30, 13:44-46, 14:25-33

Main Point: Faith in Jesus results in a restored relationship with God and a new identity that leads to life and joyful obedience.

1. The Choice: (Matthew 7:13-14)

2. The Broad Way: (Matthew 7:13)

3. The Narrow Way: (Matthew 7:14)

REFLECT

1. What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you? What did you learn about the character of God? How did this week’s sermon affect your perspective on God or your perspective on yourself?
2. In this section of Scripture, Jesus began the conclusion to the sermon on the mount. He offers two choices. What are the implications of Jesus being the only way to be saved? How is Jesus’ “Narrow” teaching about salvation received by our pluralistic syncretistic culture? What does it look like for you to be faithful in communicating this message to those who haven’t trusted Jesus yet?
3. Read Matthew 7:13-14. Describe the two options that Jesus presented. How are the two gates and two path similar and different? Where do each of the paths end up?
4. How easy is the broad path verses the narrow path? What makes following the narrow path worth it?
5. Read Luke 13:22-30. What question did Jesus answer in this passage? What are the similarities and differences between this passage and Matthew 7:13-34?
6. Read Luke 13:44-46. What was Jesus talking about in these two parables? What does the hidden treasure and fine pearls represent? Why would a person joyfully give all that they have to acquire these things? How do these parables apply to following Jesus?
7. Read Luke 14:25-33. What did Jesus tell the crowds who were following Him in this section? What does Jesus want them to do? Why did Jesus tell the people to count the cost of being His disciples? What is the cost of following Jesus?
8. It is vital to understand the difference between salvation and sanctification. What does it mean that people are saved by grace alone? After we trust in Jesus, what is the expectation for followers of Christ?
9. Have you entered through the narrow gate? What does that mean? Are you walking the narrow path? What does that mean?
