EXPECTATION SUNDAY
December 28, 2024

UNFULFILLED expectations aren’t really a failure on God’s part…

They’re a result of UNINFORMED/MISINFORMED expectations

“PRAY WITH EXPECTATION”

3 Biblical expectations when I pray

He listens

Psalm 34:4-6
I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.

He accomplishes His will

Isaiah 46:9-10
Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

2 Peter 3:8-9
But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

GOD’S SALVATION IS FOR ME, BUT IT’S MUCH BIGGER THAN JUST ME

Matthew 26:39
He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

He receives the glory

Isaiah 48:11
I will rescue you for my sake— yes, for my own sake! I will not let my reputation be tarnished, and I will not share my glory with idols!
