Project 320: The Power of Gratitude
Ephesians 3:20-21
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.Colossians 3:12-17
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
You can’t always control things going on around you, but you can determine the attitude you will have about it.
- Philippians 2:5
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Attitude – aeronautical term describing the pitch or orientation of the aircraft relative to the horizon. Attitude determines whether you are ascending or descending. Same is true with you and me – our attitude is often determining whether we are ascending or descending in life.

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And broke their chains in pieces. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!Ephesians 5:19-20
speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Being thankful is not just good Christian behavior. It’s a powerful spiritual weapon that protects, directs, connects, and positions us so that God can more readily provide for us.

1) Connection – Gratitude is one of the keys to experiencing more of God’s presence and stronger relationships with those He has placed in our life.
Psalms 95:2
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.Psalms 100:4

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

2) Direction – Gratitude keeps us moving forward towards God’s plans and purposes for our life – His will for your life.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.Numbers 14:29-30
In this wilderness your bodies will fall—every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me. Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

3) Protection – Protects our hearts from destructive forces.
- Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Greek word for guard is Phroureo:
To guard, protect by a military guard, either to prevent hostile invasion, or to keep the inhabitants of a besieged city from flight. Giving thanks guards your heart against destructive forces!

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.Proverbs 4:23
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
When you begin to sense an attack of discouragement, depression or despair, predetermine to come against it with the weapon of thankfulness.
4) Provision – Gratitude moves the heart of the King, moves the heart of the Father.
- Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Gratitude expressed before the answered prayer creates the ultimate atmosphere of faith.
