John 10:7-18

So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:7-9

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

This Week’s Power Verse

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10

What’s On the Other Side of the True Door?

  • Security

  • Satisfaction

  • Salvation

The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” John 10:17-18

And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:44

“Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Mark 14:36

3 Decisive Doors

I am the Door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. John 10:9

Jesus says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

CONNECTION GROUP GUIDE

Opening Question:

  • What’s the most memorable door you’ve ever encountered, and why did it stand out to you?

Key Scripture: John 10:7-18

Discussion Questions:

  1. We encounter many kinds of doors every day. How does thinking about Jesus as “the door” change your perspective on your relationship with Him?

  2. Adam and Eve had an “open-door relationship” with God that became damaged by sin. How have you experienced the effects of sin closing doors in your own life?

  3. Jesus says He is “THE door,” not just “A door.” Why is this distinction important, and how does it challenge popular ideas about spirituality and finding God?

  4. Discuss the imagery of the shepherd becoming the door for the sheep. How does this help you understand Jesus’ role in your life?

  5. In John 10:10 Jesus contrasts the thief’s intentions with Jesus’ purpose. How have you experienced the “full life” Jesus offers? Where do you still see the thief at work?

  6. Think about Jesus’ willingness to “lay down His life.” How does this sacrificial act impact your understanding of God’s love for you?

  7. Jesus is described as knocking at the door of our hearts. What might be preventing you from fully opening the door to Him in certain areas of your life?

Key Takeaways:

  1. Jesus is the exclusive way to a relationship with God and eternal life.

  2. Walking through the “door” of Jesus leads to security, satisfaction, and salvation.

  3. Jesus willingly sacrificed Himself to open the way for us.

  4. The resurrection proves Jesus’ power over death and all obstacles.

  5. Jesus offers an abundant life that starts now, not just in eternity.

Live It Out:

  1. Identify an area of your life where you’ve been trying to find fulfillment through other “doors.” Commit to seeking Jesus in that area this week.

  2. Practice sharing your testimony of how you “walked through the door” of Jesus with those around you.

  3. Look for opportunities to be an “open door” to others, showing Christ’s love and invitation in practical ways.

  4. Spend time in prayer, thanking Jesus for being the door and inviting Him into areas of your life you may have closed off.

  5. Think about Revelation 3:20 every day this week. Write down ways that Jesus is “knocking” in your life and how you’re responding.

Closing Prayer:

Thank Jesus for being the door to abundant life and salvation. We ask for the courage to fully walk through that door and to invite others to do the same.
