Who Are You Following?

  1. Will You Me?
  2. Who Do You That I Am?
  3. Do You Me?

Jesus called out to them, “come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” Mark 1:17 NLT

As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him. Mark 2:14 NLT

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Christian vs. Disciple

Christian (n) “little Christ”

Disciple (n) “ one who follows another for the purpose of learning”

“The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether those who, by profession or culture, are identified as ‘Christians’ will become disciples, students, apprentices, practitioners- of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to live the life of the kingdom of Heaven into every corner of human existence.” Dallas Willard

Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” John 18:36-37 NLT

Jesus cares more about getting

into us than He does about getting into Heaven.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27 NLT

The goal of a disciple is “to be with Jesus in order to become like him and live the way Jesus would live if he were in their shoes.” John Mark Comer
