5 Words to Change Your Life

Today’s word… Boundaries

A boundary is a dividing line.

Three examples of Boundaries in Scripture…

1. Property line identifier

2. An ideology/directional marker

I will drive them out a little at a time until your population has increased enough to take possession of the land. And I will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the eastern wilderness to the Euphrates River. I will hand over to you the people now living in the land, and you will drive them out ahead of you.
“Make no treaties with them or their gods. They must not live in your land, or they will cause you to sin against me. If you serve their gods, you will be caught in the trap of idolatry.” —NLT Exodus 23:30–33

Any boundary given by God is always for my good… even when I don’t know why.

“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. “But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” —NLT Deuteronomy 30:15–20

Your behavior determines your destiny, not your intentions… what we do on a daily basis.

3. Intrapersonal and Interpersonal

A boundary is always for me, never the other person… and it’s always rooted in love.

When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. —NLT John 4:40–41

Personal boundaries… rooted in love

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. —NLT 1 John 4:7–8

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners —NLT Romans 5:8

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” —NLT Matthew 22:37–40

Boundaries based on love… Love of God, Love oneself, highest love for others…
