Soon and Never, Psalm 41:5

  1. King had plenty of enemies.
  2. Jesus also had, and has, plenty of enemies, too.
  3. You also have enemies; the Small Catechism names them in the Petition of the Lord’s Prayer: ‘[1] the devil, [2] the world, and [3] our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God’s name or let His kingdom come.’

Why are Christians tempted to avoid the scorn that comes from being a follower of Christ?

1 Peter 4:12-14 says, ‘Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.’ (1 Peter 4:12-14, ESV) What does this passage of Scripture give you the confidence to do?
