Proverbial Wisdom
Shine it through a 1st and 21st century lens
Disconnected, but made of the same stuff
How lost are we?
What does found look like?
1).
Hyperbolie, but significant - children were thought of differently
In our time, church has deaf ears
2). Forgiveness
Same for us - but we have a thin version - “it’s fine”
Handing over the keys
Part of Reconciliation, but so much depends on the other person
3). Faith
Same for all of us - do we believe God
4). Servant
The job
We want to do part and get thanked
Servant - we don’t like that
Christ went before us
Gratful he didn’t
Now, we are new people
Heidelberg:
Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
A. That I am not my own, but belong— body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him. —Heidelberg Catechism, Q1
Lepers healed
We want to say “I did it”
Exhausted
Gratitude is better
Let’s come to the table
