Prayer for Unreached People Groups Around the World

Day Eight

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
—Habakkuk 2:14

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he left his followers with a task to make disciples of all nations. When we hear the word nation today, we naturally think of geo-political nations such as the United States of America, India, China, Iran, etc. But actually, the word nations in the Great Commission means people groups. The Joshua Project defines people groups as the largest group within which the gospel can spread as a church-planting movement without encountering barriers of understanding our acceptance. A person living in an unreached people group is not more lost than your atheist neighbor, but the difference is access. Those in unreached areas lack access to hear the gospel message. There is no church, Bible, or Christian around them who can share the hope we have in Christ. Missiological research indicates there are still over three billion people in the world who do not have access to the gospel. We know that God will accomplish his purposes in the world, and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. This includes those areas where over three billion people are still walking in the darkness without the light of Christ. Let’s join together in praying for the Lord’s will to be done on earth and for the unreached to be reached with the hope of the gospel. Thousands of people today will die without hearing about the hope we have in Jesus—ask the Lord to use us and our prayers to send people to share the hope of Christ.

God of all nations, you are the Creator of everyone and everything. You have made us in your image, but uniquely in many different cultures, colors, and languages. You have said that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of your glory, so we pray and ask that it would be so! Father, you provided the way for the three billion who have not heard of your love to know you, through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus, you died to redeem people from every tribe, tongue, and nation, and we know that one day we will gather together before your throne to worship you together. God, would you hear our prayers for these people who have not heard, the unreached people groups of the world, and would you send people to declare the good news of the gospel? Would you use the people of Providence to make an impact on your kingdom among the unreached? Thank you, Jesus, for redeeming us by your blood, and for giving us a part in your grand story of redemption. We love you. Amen.
