“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” —Matthew 18:19-20 NIV
Early in our marriage, Bri and I prayed together regularly. It was natural, life-giving, and a foundation for our relationship. But somehow, as time passed, responsibilities increased, and kids entered the picture, it slowly fell off. Not intentionally—just subtly, as life got busier.
This past Wednesday, we started praying together daily again, and I can already see the difference.
There’s something powerful about inviting God into your relationship together. It strengthens your bond, builds trust, and keeps you united in the battles of life.
Why Praying Together Matters
It strengthens your bond – Prayer fosters intimacy, honesty, and vulnerability before God.
It builds spiritual unity – Aligning your hearts toward God’s will deepens your connection.
It protects against division – The enemy wants to divide, but prayer binds you together in Christ.
It brings peace in hard times – Instead of fighting each other, you learn to fight battles together.
It invites God’s blessing – Jesus dwells where two or three gather in His name.
As Gallop found in 1997, married couples who pray together daily are less than 0.1% likely to get divroced.
Not Married? You Still Need a Prayer Partner!
This isn’t just for couples. Find a prayer partner!
Simile has been praying daily with her friend Mercy, and it has been life-giving.
God designed us for community—prayer is not meant to be done in isolation.
A prayer partner will challenge, encourage, and sharpen you in faith (Proverbs 27:17).
“As Iron Sharpens Iron, so one man sharpens another.”
Take the First Step Today
*If you’re married*, I challenge you to start praying together daily—even if it’s short and simple.
If you’re single, find a prayer partner—a friend, mentor, or family member.
If your spouse does not yet believe, look for that prayer partner as well. Someone you trust and can confide in.
Ask: What’s one thing we can pray for each other today?
Keep it consistent—daily, even if just for a few minutes.
Prayer
Lord, forgive us for letting the habit of prayer slip away in our closest relationships. Help us to rebuild this foundation, whether in marriage or friendships. Give us the discipline to pray daily, knowing that it draws us closer to You and to each other. Protect our hearts, strengthen our bonds, and teach us to seek You together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
