Questions:
Have you ever been guilty of “paralysis by analysis”—when you spend so much time analyzing a decision that you wind up taking too long to decide? What role do you think doubt plays in that process?
Thinking about Abraham and the promises God gave to him, what might have been some of the factors that would have caused him to doubt whether God really would fulfill those promises?
Read Romans 4:17. What was the object of Abraham’s faith? Why does the object of one’s faith matter more than the quality (as in, “my faith is strong”) or quantity (as in, “I have a lot of faith”) of one’s faith?
As you read Romans 4:17, Paul explains that there are two things that God does. What are they? How do these two works illustrate how important it is for God to be the object of our faith?
Read Romans 4:21. What is God able to do? Why do you think the Scriptures constantly remind us that God is able?
What confidence does God’s ability give to our faith? How will being convinced of those promises affect your thoughts, words, and actions this week?
