A Teachable Heart - Proverbs 9:9

Josh 1:7-9… “have I not commanded… be strong and courageous… the Lord is with you…”
Psa 29:11… “the Lord gives His people strength and peace…”
Psa 133:1… “how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live in unity…”
Isa 54:10… “though mountains move and hills shake… My hesed will not be removed….”
Nahum 1:7… “the Lord is good… a stronghold in the day of trouble…”
Zeph 3:17… “God is among you… mighty warrior who saves… sings over you…”
we have grown together… learned together… loved together… cried together…
Acts 20:32… “commit you to grace… to build you up and give you inheritance…”
2Cor 1:3-7… “He comforts us in trouble… so we may be able to comfort others…”
Eph 2:19… “no longer strangers, but fellow citizens… members of God’s family…”
Eph 4:11-16… “whole body promotes growth of body… building up in love…”

we have found purpose together… we have found family, Jesus, grace together…
Psa 68:6… “God places the lonely in families… sets prisoners free… gives joy…”

Phil 3:8-11… “everything worthless compared to knowing Him… goal is to know Him…”

a scared world needs a fearless church… and we have been fearless together…
Acts 2:42-47… “teaching, fellowship, meals, prayer, sharing, worship… together…”
Acts 4:31… “when they prayed… all filled with HS… spoke word boldly…”
Acts 9:31… “church had peace… was strengthened… encouraged by HS… grew…”
in all we’ve been thru… the Gospel has been our foundation…
Psa 119… “opening of Your word gives understanding… Your word is truth…”
Psa 138:2… “You have exalted above all things Your name and Your word…”
John 8:31-32… “continue in My word… then know truth… truth will set you free…”
Rom 1:16-17… “not ashamed of Gospel… power of salvation to all who believe…”
1Cor 2:2… “decided to know nothing among you except Christ crucified…”
you have honored me and treated my family with kindness and love…
Gal 6:6… “let one who is taught the word share all good things with the teacher…”

in 20 years… one thing stands out most… you have a teachable heart… pray…
Prov 9:9… “instruct wise and he will be wiser… teach righteous and he will learn more…”
Prov 19:20… “listen to advice… accept instruction… that you may gain wisdom…”
Mark 4:25… “whoever has a teachable heart… more understanding will be given…”
Acts 17:11… “people here were more open-minded… received word eagerly…”
1Cor 8:2… “if anyone thinks he knows anything… he doesn’t yet know it as he ought…”
Col 3:16… “let the Word of Christ… in all its richness… fill your lives…”
what does a teachable heart look like…
Prov 12:15… “way of a fool is right in his eyes… a wise man listens to advice…”
Luke 8:10 TPT… “you have been given a teachable heart to perceive the hidden mysteries of God’s kingdom… but those without a listening heart are blind to the true meaning of what I say… and even though they listen, they won’t receive full revelation…”
you grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus by reading your bible… as you do… it’s critical you rightly divide it… especially when reading difficult passages…
Mark 2:22… “no one puts new wine into old wineskins… or both will be lost…”
2Tim 2:15… “study… show yourself approved… not ashamed… rightly dividing word…”
Heb 8:6-13… “Jesus… mediator of better covenant… based on better promises… by saying a NC… He has declared the first is obsolete and out of date…”
our beliefs filter what we see… if you believe bible is about rules, regulations, law… that’s what you’ll see… if you believe God is mean, cruel, judgmental… that’s what you’ll see… work hard to avoid sin… and totally miss out on Jesus…
Luke 24:27-48… “interpreted things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures…”
Acts 10:43… “all the prophets testify about Him…”
Acts 28:23-24… “persuaded them about Jesus from both the Law and Prophets…”
2Tim 3:14-16… “known scriptures… which are able to give wisdom in Christ…”
three choices when we come across difficult passages… ignore it… try to figure out with natural mind… or ask HS for help… best way to deal with hard passages is to simply admit… I don’t understand this… and then allow HS to guide you…
John 16:13… “when the Spirit of truth comes… He will guide you into all truth…”
1Cor 2:6-16… “God has revealed these things by the Spirit… no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit… received HS so we may understand what has been freely given to us by God… Spirit explains spiritual things to spiritual people… we have mind of Christ…”
Gal 1:12… “didn’t receive from man… not taught… came by revelation of Jesus…”
some passages digest easily and answers come quickly… some require chewing the cud and revelation takes time… most often, we ignore best advice… just ask…
Matt 7:7… “ask; it will be given… seek; you will find… knock; door will be opened…”
James 1:5… “if any lack wisdom… ask God… who gives to all generously…”
aiteo… to ask, beg, call for, crave, desire, require; ask for something to be given…
tricky passages can be scary if you don’t understand… these passages seem to say we’re all going to hell… yet they often have a key that opens door to revelation…
Eph 5:5… “you know this with certainty… no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater… has an inheritance in the Kingdom of God…”
1Cor 6:9-10; Gal 5:19-21… “unrighteous will not inherit… immoral, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, greedy, abusive… those with sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, division, envy, or anything similar… not inherit kingdom of God…”
key word is inheritance… not about badly behaving Christians… about people who don’t believe in Jesus… not children and heirs… unbelievers who do these things will not inherit the kingdom… not because of behavior, but because of unbelief…
John 1:12… “to all who received… gave right to be children… to all who believe…”
Rom 8:12-32… “Spirit of adoption… if children, also heirs… freely give us all things…”
pride hinders understanding… thankful, teachable heart leads to revelation…
Luke 8:11-18… “seed in good ground… heard word with good heart… produce fruit…”
Luke 24:25… “how foolish you are and slow of heart to believe…”
