Day 263 - Eat with Others
Monica Barnes
“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity — 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” - Acts 2:46-47 NLT
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 12:12 NLT
There is that phrase again: meet together. The Bible can’t stress enough how important it is for believers to get together and hang out, but not just “hang out.” We are also called to eat together – to break bread.
We aren’t called to simply sit in a room listening to other people chew. Sorry to those of you with misophonia – ear plugs may help! We are to eat together with glad and sincere hearts. We should be happy to be with the people we are eating with – it should be a joyous occasion! We should also be praising God while enjoying everyone’s company.
Jesus demonstrated the importance of this several times in the Bible. There are about fourteen references in the Bible to Jesus breaking bread with others. In all these cases, Jesus taught those around Him (and all of us who read the Bible) a lesson: eating together is becoming one body in Christ.
