SERMON NOTES
Revive This City - Zach Lamberson
Nehemiah 9:5-10 & Exodus 4:1-17 - From Somebody to Nobody
Introduction
- Moses was drawn out into ministry with much hesitation.
Initially Moses was confident to accomplish God’s will on his own.
Exodus 2:12
It wasn’t until after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness that God used him.
At age 80, Moses was finally activated into ministry.
Exodus 3:11
God used what was in Moses’ hand (a staff) to use as a sign to Pharaoh.
- God used a cursed disease as a witness to Pharaoh.
- Finally God used the Egyptian’s life-line (the Nile) to show His power.
- God allows Aaron to be Moses’ mouthpiece because Moses lacks confidence in his own abilities.
Encouragement
Our inability is God’s capability
- Part of life is recognizing you’re not capable.
- The other part is realizing that God is.
God will use whatever you’ve got
- Throw down what’s in your hand and watch as God uses it.
- God will use your natural gifts but He will also supernaturally gift you.
You are not the only tool in His bag
- If you don’t want to be used, God won’t use you.
- If you disqualify yourself, God will find someone else.
- This keeps us humble and keeps our eyes focused on God as He builds His kingdom.
The Exodus is a picture of our salvation
- Taken out of slavery (to sin) we are divinely rescued.
- Passing over our sins God takes us out of Egypt into His Promised Land.
- Unfortunately some of us spend unnecessary time wandering in the wilderness first.
