12/28 - 12/29: FROM THE CRIB TO THE CROSS, HOLINESS PROTECTED
January 2, 2025

A YEAR OF PRAYER

FROM THE CRIB TO THE CROSS, HOLINESS PROTECTED

HOLINESS DEFINED:
The quality or state of being holy; perfect moral integrity or purity; freedom from sin; sanctity; innocence.

“GOD IS HOLINESS”

And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” —Isaiah 6:3

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” —Revelation 4:8

JOSEPH, PROTECTOR OF HOLINESS

1. Joseph protected holiness in his own life as to be honored with God’s trust.

18  Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
19  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. —Matthew 1:18 - 19

And Joseph her [promised] husband, being a just and righteous man and not wanting to expose her publicly to shame, planned to send her away and divorce her quietly. —Matthew 1:19 (AMP)

Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. —Matthew 1:19 (NLT)

Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce
her quietly. —Matthew 1:19 (NIV)

15  But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16  because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” —1 Peter 1:15 - 16

Meanwhile, live in such a way that you are a credit to the Message of Christ. —Philippians 1:27 (MSG)

2. Joseph protected the seed of perfect holiness by having faith in the message from God and reacting selflessly.

20  But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21  And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22  So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23  “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
24  Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
25  and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. —Matthew 1:20 - 25

He must increase, but I must decrease. —John 3:30

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. —Galatians 2:20

3. Joseph protected the purity of the helpless Holy One from the evil of the world by obeying the message of God.

1  Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,
2  saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.
3  When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. —Matthew 2:1 - 3

7  Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.
8  And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”
9  When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. —Matthew 2:7 - 9

13  Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
14  When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,
15  and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
16  Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
17  Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
18  “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
19  Now when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20  saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life
are dead.”
21  Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22  But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.
23  And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.” —Matthew 2:13 - 23

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. —Romans 12:2

8  Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die.
9  Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. —Proverbs 31:8 - 9

4. Joseph (even in failure and complacency) remained resilient to the mission of protecting holiness.

41  His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
42  And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
43  When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;
44  but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45  So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.
46  Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47  And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
48  So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49  And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” —Luke 2:41 - 49

12  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
14  I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive. —Jeremiah 29:12 - 14

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. —James 4:8
