BiG Idea: Only Jesus can (truly) complete us

Colossians 2:8–10
8 Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ. 9 For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ, 10 and you have been filled by him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

(How) Am I looking to others to complete me?

am I looking for others to complete me?

Just because we don’t “complete” one another, doesn’t mean we don’t need one another

Loving one another should be our

to being made complete in Christ

1 John 4:7
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:8
8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Love is

God is, and Love is also God does

1 John 3:18
18 Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.

Sin distorted the image of God in us and created our

1 John 4:9
9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

1 John 4:10
10 Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice, for our sins.

Philippians 2:5b–8
5…Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.

1 John 4:11
11 Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another.

1 John 4:12
12 No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us and his love is made complete in us.

Even though a watching world cannot physically see God, they can recognize the reality of God when they see his love perfected in us as we love one another. - Ray Van Neste (Theologian)
