“When I survey the wondrous cross, on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all my pride.”
What do you see when you look at the cross?
At the cross, Jesus was our sacrifice.
For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. —1 Peter 1:18–19 (NLT)
This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. —Matthew 26:28 (NLT)

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. —Ephesians 1:7–8 (NIV)

What do you notice in these passages?
At the cross, Jesus died in our place.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. —Isaiah 53:4–6 (NIV)
God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. —Romans 5:8 (NLT)
What do you notice in these passages?
At the cross, Jesus defeated sin.
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. —Colossians 2:13–15 (NLT)
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. —Romans 6:6–7 (NLT)
What do you notice in these passages?
The cross has made you free! In Christ, your sins have been atoned for. You have been forgiven. You are free. So, let’s live like it.
