Colossians 1 Part 3
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
Col 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Col 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:

1. Verse 24 is a reminder that Paul is writing this letter from

.
2. Although Paul was in a prison cell at this point his began much earlier.
3. By this point Paul has been beaten with rods 3 times, shipwrecked 3 times, bitten by a poisonous snake and even been and left for dead outside the city walls of Lystra.
4. Paul says he in his suffering just as Jesus taught in the sermon on the mount.
Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

5. Paul later writes in Romans 8 that his suffering does not compare the that will be revealed to us.
Rom 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
6. It is these sufferings that heavenly rewards.
7. Paul is comparing his afflictions to those of and saying he has a lot of catching up to do.
8. It is important to note that these suffering are directly connected to the .
Col 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Note: these are my personal commentaries of this verse 25.
9. Paul is recognizing a in his role in the ministry.
10. Paul who once viewed himself primarily as an evangelist is now seeing himself in the role of .
11. Now that he is confined to the prison he recognizes God is using this time for him to be able to help these new churches with issues of and operation.
Col 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
*Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:*
12. The that Paul is referring to is the Gospel.
13. Every sacrifice, every feast, every ordinance even the instructions for the building of the temple were to Christ.
14. Each of these functions were a foreshadowing of the Gospel.
15. Paul’s ministry is significant because it brought the Gospel to the .
16. Paul declares that it is through the the Gentiles will receive the Gospel.
Col 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
17. In verse 28 Paul describes the Gospel as a .
18. Not only a warning but a to reveal the mystery of Christ to every man.
19. This would become Paul’s legacy and he would eventually for this conviction.
Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
