1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. 6 And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you. —Exodus 31:1-6 ESV

Bezalel was the first person in the Bible that was filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit gives us the creative ability to do the work God has called us to do.

  • Be a creative collaborator in your world.

And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you: —Exodus 31:6 ESV

  • Allow the Holy Spirit to empower you to be excellent in what you do.

30 Then Moses said to the people of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, 32 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze, 33 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, for work in every skilled craft. —Exodus 35:30-33 ESV

  • Allow the Holy Spirit to inspire you to teach others.

34 And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer. —Exodus 35:34-35 ESV

God fills you with creativity so that you can prepare a place for Him to dwell where you live, work, and play.

33 And he erected the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work. 34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. —Exodus 40:33-34 ESV

Discipleship Guide

Let’s Talk About It

Being creative is not found only in artists or crafty people, but we all have the capacity to be creative. Being creative is part of us because we’re made in the image of God. The Holy Spirit gives us the creative ability to do the work that He’s called us to do. Let’s answer God’s call to be creative so that we can prepare a place for Him to dwell where you live, work, and play.

Exodus 31:1-6 ESV, Genesis 1:27 ESV, Exodus 35:30-36:2 ESV

Discussion questions:

Which part of the message impacted or challenged you?

Read Genesis 1:27. Do you consider yourself a creative person? Why or why not? How does understanding that you are made in the image of God, help shed some light to reveal that you have the capacity to be creative?

Read Exodus 31:6. Who are the people that you co-labor with that help shoulder the weight of the work or responsibilities that you do? What are some things that you’ve learned over time regarding delegating and working with others? Does working together on a team come easy to you? Why or why not?

Share a time when you had a creative solution for a situation. How did it play a part in bringing God’s life-giving transformation in that area of your life?

Take a Step
What is one area of your life (marriage, friendships, family, workplace, sports team, etc) that you would like to bring creative solutions to? What would you like to see made better? What creative solution can you bring to see life-giving change? Take a practical step to see it happen.

Here’s My Prayer
Lord, thank you for the work you call me to do in this season. Help me to see the problems and may you give me creative insight in order to see life-giving change happen. I want to bring you glory in my family, in my work, and in all that I do because you are so worthy. May you fill me with your Holy Spirit to overflowing, that I may become the creative person you call me to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
