Isaiah 25:1-12
25:6 | In this mountain (Mount Zion) God will prepare a feast to celebrate His enthronement as king. This is one of the earliest biblical references to a future banquet. Later, this idea will be portrayed as a messianic banquet by Matthew (Matt. 8:11; 22:4; 26:29). God’s ultimate purpose is not only to judge and destroy the nations but to call all people, Jews and Gentiles alike, to repentance.
25:8 | In ancient Near East ideology, death was a powerful god that devoured human flesh, swallowing its victims (Num. 16:30-34; 2 Sam. 17:16; Ps. 69:15). Here the Lord swallows up death (1 Cor. 15:54; Rev. 7:17; 21:4).
