Hebrews 10:26-39 (NKJV) says 26For if we sin

after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: 33partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; 34for you had compassion , and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. 35Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 37“For yet , and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. 38Now the just shall live by ; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” 39But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Verses 26-31 are hard words for people who live apart from God’s mercy and grace. Who reject God, both under the Mosaic covenant (verse 28) and under New covenant (verse 29).

Q1 What kind of willful sin is meant in verse 26. If, you cannot find it, look at verse 29. Which three aspects of this willful sin are mentioned there?

If you reject Jesus, there remains no longer a sacrifice for you (verse 26). If you think there are more ways leading to God than through Jesus, you have a problem. Then, you deny the cross. Guess what. You’ll get what is described in verse 27: judgment. Think of what verse 31 says It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. How much better is it to fall into the arms of a living Savior.

Q2 Do you think God will force you to accept His Son?

Enough warnings! Now, it’s time for encouragements.

Q3 From verse 32, the writer says that you have suffered already as a Christian. It’s gonna be more; what kind of mental sufferings (verse 33) and economic persecution (verse 34)?

Now is the time to learn endure persecution without hating the persecutors, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven (verse 34). Love your enemies, pray for them (Matthew 5:44).

Q4 What is our perspective, hope, and future (verses 35-36)?

Habakkuk 2:3-4 says 3For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. 4“Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.
In Romans 1:17 we read For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
In Galatians 3:11 we read the same quote But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.”

Q5 How do the just live (verse 38, Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11)? How about you? Never pulling back?

Q6 In what tense is verse 39, past, future, or present tense?

Can you worship the Lord with this song?
