Mark 10:46-52 | Obey & See The Merciful Servant-King
John Cole
Part of Mark: Following the Suffering Son
June 24, 2024

Read Mark 10:46-52.

LIMITED PERCEPTION

Main Argument: Trust King Jesus to give

to the needy,     to the blind, and     to follow Him in the way of the Kingdom.

BLIND BEGGARS & TRAVELORS

Mark 10:46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

We are to see our

in Bartimaeus, (ironically) our     in the travelers, and the way of the     in Jesus.

UNSTOPPABLE CRIES TO THE KING

Mark 10:47–48 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

For Reference: 2 Samuel 7:12-17; Romans 1:1-6; Isaiah 35

See: Mark 8:18

Q: What do you see when you picture the Kingdom of God?

1) THE KING IS RICH IN    .

See: Mark 1:40-41

Mark 10:47–48 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Q: Do you believe Jesus has enough mercy for all who come by repentance and faith?

Repentance is a change of heart that leads to turning away from what is sin.

Faith is a whole-hearted reliance on God’s promise—Jesus is the Servant-King who came to pay the ransom for our sin through His death and resurrection.

Repentance and faith don’t earn mercy. By definition, mercy can’t be earned. They are the receptive response to it.

2) THE KING IS    .

Mark 10:49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

Q: Have you obeyed the King’s call? Who do you need to tell that Jesus is calling?

It is the King’s summons that has power, not ours. Just tell others that the King is calling!

3) THE KING CAME TO    .

Mark 10:50–51 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

Q: How about you? Do you see, perceive, and understand Who Jesus is, why you need Him, and what the way of His Kingdom is like?

4) THE SERVANT-KING IS WORTHY OF    .

Mark 10:52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

For Reference: Ephesians 2:8

Q: Does your commitment to the way of the King declare: “Jesus is worthy of following”?

“Go” means follow Jesus in the way

 .

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE JESUS    ?

For Reference: Mark 10:36-37,51; 8:22-26
