PREPARE

John-21wide.jpeg

John gives us the gift of listening into Jesus’ conversation with the 11 remaining disciples after Judas has left to betray Him. Jesus’ knows His hour has come and things are going to get excruciatingly hard, not just for Him, but also for those who love and follow Him. What a beautiful way to begin these last instructions – trust in God, trust also in Me! The disciples ask questions and Jesus answers them by pointing back to who He is and inviting them to believe all they have heard and seen.

Prepare for this week’s message by reading John 14:1-14

LISTEN

Verses: John 14:1-14

Main Point: Jesus is the way to life and relationship with God.

1. The Comfort of Heaven: (Jn 14:1-4)

2. Jesus is the Way: (Jn 14:5-7)

3. The Power of God: (Jn 14:8-14)

REFLECT

1. What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you?
2. What did Jesus’ mean when he said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” What are the implications of these words? How does this impact your understanding of God?
3. Read John 14:1-4. Why were Jesus’ disciples troubled? (See chapter 13 for context.) What did Jesus say to comfort them?
4. Where was Jesus going to prepare a place for the disciples? What was the goal of Jesus preparing a place for the disciples? How does this knowledge shape a Christian’s relationship with God?
5. Read John 14:5-7. What was Thomas confused about? Why would Jesus’ words be hard to understand?
6. Examine each of Jesus’ words. How is He the way? How is He the truth? How is He the life? Why is Jesus the only way to come to the God the Father?
7. What did Jesus mean when He said, “If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him”? (See Hebrews 1:1-3.)
8. Read John 14:8-14. What evidence did Jesus give for the disciples to trust in? What kind of works did Jesus promise all who believe in Him will do? What does it mean to do “greater works” than Jesus?
9. What does it mean to ask for something in Jesus’ name? What assurance did Jesus give to those who asked “in my name”?
