Healing in the Kingdom

Kathryn Kuhlman died at 68 after open heart surgery went awry. An estimated two million claimed healed at one of her meetings, but she could not heal herself. No one has ever duplicated the healing ministry of Jesus in AD 30-33. Jesus healed 1) directly; 2) instantaneously; 3) completely; 4) everyone brought to him; 5) including organic and congenital diseases; and 6) even raised people back to life.

Jesus Heals in Three Ways:

Healing

“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed…” —Matthew 4:23-24

The demonic world afflicts all of us to some extent.

“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel.” —II Corinthians 4:4

The Bible likens our spiritual journey to that of a boat or ship.

“We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” —Hebrews 2:1

God wants us to latch on the gospel like we are tying up to a dock. We are not to drift past the dock due to neglect.

A foothold of sin can easily become a stronghold which can lead to demonic oppression or even possession.

“How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders, and various miracles.” —Hebrews 2:3-4

Healing

“People brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures…” —Matthew 4:24

People suffering mental or emotional disorders in the ancient world were thought to be influenced by the moon (lunatics).

Human beings are complex creatures with a broad array of genes, hormones, and mysterious diseases. Although the medical world discounts the realm of the spiritual, the Bible sees us as holistic beings. Nancy Pearcey describes this interrelationship in Love Thy Body.

Romans 1:24-32 describe three steps in the decline of a culture: 1) sexual immorality; 2) homosexual immorality; and 3) insanity. “Ravi Zacharias and the Christian View of Homosexuality” on YouTube offers further insight.

In Matthew 4, Jesus offers us a foretaste of the fullness of the heavenly kingdom. The curse of sin will be partially lifted in the millennial kingdom (Isaiah 64-65; Revelation 20), and fully lifted in the eternal kingdom (Revelation 21-22).

Healing

“People brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.” —Matthew 4:24

The Bible records only a sliver of the miracles Jesus did (John 21:25). His fame spread all through Syria encompassing all of Palestine so it is probably that Jesus eradicated death and disease throughout the land for up to three years. One touch of his garment could cure a disease that has lingered for decades (Matthew 9:20).

Professing Christian leaders who claim to perform miracles and healings are all around us. Great discernment is needed in assessing their ministry. Costi Hinn describes the deception used by his uncle Benny Hinn in God, Greed, and the Prosperity Gospel. And yet mighty miracle and amazing healings are still happening today in response to the prayers of God’s people!

There will be a day when

“there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” —Revelation 21:4

Do you long for that day?
