Big Idea:

In the midst of the challenges 2020 has brought, many are struggling and wondering where to turn for help. Mark 5:1-20 points to Jesus as the one who can bring hope and healing to people who struggle!

We learn in this story that Jesus is attracted to struggling people. We also see that the size of our struggles never intimidates Him. He has the power to conquer every struggle and bring healing and freedom to our lives. Then the Lord wants to use us, as healed and whole people, to help transform others who are struggling.

Mark 5:18-20 (TPT) And as Jesus began to get into the boat to depart, the man who had been set free from demons asked him, “Could I go with you?” 19 Jesus answered, “No,” but said to him, “Go back to your home and to your family and tell them what the Lord has done for you. Tell them how he had mercy on you.” 20 So the man left and went into the region of Jordan and parts of Syria to tell everyone he met about what Jesus had done for him, and all the people marveled.

Start Talking:

How have you seen the Lord help you through a struggle, or help someone you know through their struggle? What did you learn along the way?

Start Thinking:

Read Mark 4:35-41. How does the story in these verses help you understand Jesus’ heart and ministry in Mark 5:1-20?

Read Mark 5:1-13. In what ways did Jesus confront and conquer the huge challenge in this man’s life? How does this encourage you about Jesus’ ability to help you through the most difficult struggles in your life?

Read Mark 5:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. What do you learn from these verses about your mission and message as Jesus helps you overcome your struggles?

Start Praying:

We all struggle in different ways. Share one area of struggle in your life that others can pray with you about. Also listen closely to the struggles others are going through and believe God to heal and deliver them.

Start Doing:

Write out this week a prayer asking the Lord to help you overcome a specific struggle in your life. Note how He speaks to you and be responsive to His wisdom and prompting. Maybe share about your struggle with a trusted friend who can provide prayerful and practical support in the healing process.

Pray for wisdom for our church leaders about beginning to meet in person for worship services and ministry opportunities. Also prayerfully consider supporting outreach efforts at Redeemer. For more information, visit: https://church-redeemer.org/ministries/outreach/covid-19.
