NOTES FOR TODAYS TALK:

READ Matthew 16:25-27:
For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

GROUP Questions:

  1. What does it mean to “lose” one’s life for the sake of Jesus? How does this concept challenge conventional notions of self-preservation and personal gain?

  2. How does Jesus describe the value of gaining the whole world compared to losing one’s soul? What implications does this have for how we prioritize our pursuits and ambitions in life?

  3. In what ways can a person “deny themselves” and take up their cross to follow Jesus? How does this concept relate to self-sacrifice and the willingness to endure hardship for the sake of Christ?

  4. Reflecting on these verses, how can we practically apply the principles of self-denial, taking up our cross, and following Jesus in our daily lives? How can we live in a way that reflects the eternal value of our souls rather than being consumed by temporary pursuits?
